Message from Peter Howe and Hilary Brown
The "Wirral" is as flat as a pancake. So walking could be abit boring!  What about going for a ride on a dedicated cycle route.

Hilary and I are gearing up for a stimulating ride.

As it happens, our hotel for the "Wonderful Wirral Weekend" is on a new cycle route, taking us around the coast. Loads of terrific views! Distance will be upto you.

The pace of the rides will be very leisurely, with plenty of drink stops.

We have acquired the Wirral Council Cycling and the latest O.S.maps, both of which do not show our route. But rest assured its all on the "Sustrans" website. Isn't technology wonderful!

We may go cycling on both Saturday and Sunday. So watch the boards at the hotel!

Sally Champion from Chester & N Wales IVC has a pointed out that the tide times are favourable for walking over to Hilbre Island in the middle of the Dee Estuary, if anyone would be up for it. She suggests that we could do on Sunday, especially if there's good weather.

I just checked the tide tables and found that the tides are also favourable for a walk over to Hilbre Island. This is an easy walk, of about 2 miles / 1 hour each way; waterproof boots or wells are recommended, as even at low tide there is some surface water.

High tide is at 10.16 on Sunday, and you have to walk out 2 hours behind the tide, so I would suggest a noon meet by the sailing school (on the prom, in front of Morrisons).

Please let me know if you do include this as an option for your weekenders.

As it's quite weather-dependent, I suggest we confirm nearer the time. If you can let me know by 6pm Saturday if anyone wants to do tis walk, I'm on 07947 689785, if you want to pass my number directly to anyone who is interested.

MEALS
Friday evening
Buffet : 2000 > 2100 (If you are going to be late contact the hotel and they 'may' be able to keep something for you)

Saturday Breakfast

Details of other meal times should be on the noticeboard at the hotel. 29th December

On Saturday members of Merseyside IVC (also former members of BIVC) are leading a circular walk (8 miles approx) starting from the Hotel at1000hrs .  It will go through Thornton Hough Village and then on public footpaths through woods and fields and some roads to Parkgate Sea Front.

There should be stunning views of the Welsh hills, River Dee and the sea along the way if the weather is kind. Parkgate has marshes and is popular with bird watchers especially since new lakes have been created there.

There will stop at Parkgate for a lunch break of around one hour. There are choices here of various pubs or you can sample Parkgate fish & chips and/or the famous Nicholls ice cream which comes in many flavours and is popular all year round.

We will head back to Thornton Hough after lunch via a different route.

Please wear walking boots, warm clothing and bring a waterproof.
